The Information You Need

What is home healthcare?
When an individual experiences an accident, surgery or illness, home healthcare is a service designed to restore full or optimum function to that person in the familiar surroundings of their own home.

Legacy home healthcare seeks to provide a level of quality care that encourages safety and maximizes the well being of individuals. Our services include nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and home health aides.

If you think home healthcare may be beneficial for you, please call us for a complimentary nurse's assessment.

Is home healthcare a covered benefit for Medicare recipients?
Traditional Medicare and Medicare replacement plans generally cover 100% of home healthcare. We also accept most insurance plans and private pay patients.

Are there specific Medicare criteria a person must meet in order to access their benefit?
1. The patient must be homebound. This means they are unable to go out of their home for normal community activities such as shopping or attending social functions without "considerable and taxing effort".
2. The patient's care must require skilled service. This means the skills of a professional nurse or therapist is required to achieve the goals of care.
3. The patient must currently be under a physician's care.

What type of approach is taken when dealing with patient care?
An interdisciplinary team approach is utilized to maximize positive outcomes and to ensure patients are treated with dignity, respect and compassion. For more on our approach, please see the services section.

Does home healthcare have to be ordered and approved by a physician?
Yes, it is usually approved by your primary care provider. Individuals can be referred to home healthcare directly from a physician's office, the hospital, nursing homes or other community services.

Is home healthcare optional?
Home healthcare is optional. It is your patient right to choose the care you receive. You should feel free to choose the home healthcare company you want. The visiting nurse and/or therapist should always include your input when designing your plan of care. Home healthcare is a partnership between clinician and patient. In order for your healthcare to be a success, you must be actively involved as well.
